Review of Buick brand history in the past 110 years
Brand History is an American automobile brand that Chinese people are very familiar with. It has gone through 110 years of development since its birth in 1903. As early as the early years of the Republic of China, Buick entered China, and Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the country, Puyi, the last emperor, and Zhang Xueliang, the young marshal, all rode Buick. In this paper, we will review the story of Buick, a century-old automobile brand, during its development.

First, the birth of Buick (1903 -1904)
The founder of Buick is david dunbar buick. He was born in Arbros, Scotland in 1854. At the age of two, he moved to the United States with his family and settled in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of 15, Buick joined Alexander Company, which specializes in the production of pipeline equipment. During this period, he was also an apprentice in James Flower Brothers Machinery Store. In addition, it is worth mentioning that I have also worked as an apprentice in the same store.

In 1882, when Alexander went bankrupt, Buick and his good friend and partner William Sherwood took over the company and renamed it Buick Sherwood Manufacturing Company. Buick is not only a businessman, but also an inventor. From 1881 to 1889, he applied for 13 invention patents for pipeline equipment. Buick’s most important invention is to create the annealing process of attaching ceramics to cast iron, thus manufacturing various bathroom equipment such as enamel bathtub, enamel water tank and enamel toilet.

In 1895, Buick became interested in the internal combustion engine and began to try to develop it. In 1897, he manufactured and sold a batch of agricultural products with lateral design. Buick spent less and less time on Buick Sherwood Company, which made his partners extremely dissatisfied. They finally resold the company for $100,000 in 1899. Then, Buick established a new company-Buick Automation Power Company, which could produce 20 engines every day.

Soon Buick began to expand its business scope, and began to try to make cars in addition to fuel and motor boats. Walter Mar, a genius inventor and mechanic, built the first experimental Buick in 1900. It is reported that the car is driven by a horizontally placed single-cylinder water-cooled engine. The cylinder diameter of this engine is 101.6mm and the stroke is 127 mm. There is a chain drive in the car, and piezoelectric ignition is used for ignition. This car has a three-point fixed horse wheel with a diameter of 1110mm, and the axle is equipped with.
Omar likes this car very much, and he is eager for Buick to see it. Once, Mal successfully invited the boss to the workshop, and both of them got on the Buick and went out for a test drive, but one of the parts got stuck and the car went out. Buick left impatiently, and Mal was very angry with the cold reception he suffered, so he offered to resign. The two men finally parted ways in 1901. At this time, Buick’s company had no money, and he took the initiative to sell the Buick test car to Mal for $225. From the end of 1901 to the beginning of 1902, Buick Automation Power Company was reorganized into Buick Manufacturing Company.
Although the new company is already producing several different types of engines, Buick is still very concerned about the development and production of new engines. Finally, engineer Eugene Richard and others designed a revolutionary overhead valve engine. This is a single-cylinder water-cooled engine with a maximum of 6.6 horsepower. The engine cylinder has an inner diameter of 127mm and a stroke of 152.4 mm. The overhead valve is 50.8mm in diameter, 38.1mm in length, 533.4mm in diameter and 124kg in weight.

Before long, Buick manufacturing company was heavily in debt. With the help of a friend Benjamin Brisco, the company was reorganized into Buick Motor Company on May 19th, 1903, and sold to James Whiting in the same year. Under the leadership of Whiting, the company moved from Detroit to Flint, but he failed to lead Buick Motor Company out of the trough. In April 1904, Mal returned to Buick, and in August of the same year, the first model named after Buick, Model B, officially came out.

A total of 35 Buick B cars were manufactured. The early version used blue-purple wooden body and yellow wheels, with a weight of 2108mm and a weight of 760kg. It was equipped with a 2.6L twin-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 15 HP and a price of 950 US dollars. The later version uses a blue-black wooden body and yellow wheels, with a wheelbase of 2184mm, a weight of 771kg, a maximum power of 22 HP and a price of $1,200.
Second, General Motors Corporation was established on the basis of Buick (1904 -1908).

On November 1st, 1904, Buick Motor Company was transferred to William Durant, who took Buick in the right direction. Durant didn’t spend money on advertising, but found several Buick cars and drove past downtown Flint, so as to attract people’s attention. On the other hand, Durant is also aware of the concern brought by participating in the competition. On Thanksgiving Day, Buick participated in the Eagle Rock Mountain Climbing Race and set a speed record in the same group. At the same time, Buick began trial production of Model C as an improved version of Model B..

In January 1905, Buick participated in the new york Auto Show and received an order for 1,108 cars. In the same year, Buick C was officially mass-produced. The car used wooden body and ivory wheels, the wheelbase was increased to 2210mm, the weight of the car was 839kg, and the canvas canopy with side curtains was optional. A total of 750 cars were produced. This year, Buick, with Louis (founder of Chevrolet brand) and Bob Boehlmann (Indy 500 champion), set speed records in at least three races. In addition, Buick cars were exported to Britain for the first time.

In the next two years, Buick developed the first four-cylinder car-Model D, which is equipped with a 4.2L engine in its power system, which is famous for its high durability and strong power, matching with 3 speeds. The body of Buick D is based on the wooden carriage, and the chassis and wheels are made of a large number of wooden structures. The car is made by hand, supplemented by polished metal ribbons, and weighs 1021kg. A total of 523 Buick D cars were made in 1907, and the price was 2000 dollars. A total of 543 Buick D cars were built in 1908 and sold for $1,750.
The annual output of Buick increased from 37 vehicles in 1904 to nearly 5,000 vehicles in 1907, and the company’s capital increased from $75,000 to $2.6 million. In 1908, Buick became the largest automobile manufacturer in the United States with a sales volume of 8,820 vehicles, surpassing the two main competitors at that time and the sum of sales.

At that time, Durant wanted to end the coexistence of hundreds of American automobile companies, so he founded General Motors on September 16th, 1908 based on Buick Motor Company. Soon GM merged companies such as Oldsmobile, Oakland (the predecessor of Pontiac) and Cadillac. In order to attract public attention, GM also cooperated with White Star Shipping Company to build the world’s largest ocean liner Titanic.
