Leslie Cheung, male, born in 1968, Han nationality, member of NLD, chief designer of Ruili Rong Feng National Culture Communication Co., Ltd., master of arts and crafts in Yunnan Province (senior arts and crafts artist) and national senior technician. Won the National May 1st Labor Medal, Yunnan Model Worker, Yunnan May 1st Labor Medal, Yunnan Top Ten Leading Figures Award in Arts and Crafts Industry, China Arts and Crafts Typical Figures Award, Yunling Craftsman, Yunnan Chief Technician and other titles. His works are collected by China Arts and Crafts Museum and Yunnan Museum.
In 1960s, Leslie Cheung was born in an ordinary worker’s family. When he was a child, he liked reading picture books and painting books. In the era when materials were scarce, Leslie Cheung, who couldn’t afford colored pens, often went to the classroom to pick up chalk heads and then painted on the blackboard, and in a few years he drew well. Like many families in that era, Leslie Cheung had many brothers and sisters, and it was very difficult for parents to support their children. Sensible, he didn’t go to high school when he graduated from junior high school, so he simply stepped into the society to make money to supplement his family. Although it is very hard to get up early every day, he has not given up his pursuit of art. While working, he taught himself high school courses and practiced painting. Everything comes to him who waits. Leslie Cheung exchanged his own efforts for the admission notice of Yunnan Art Institute. In the year of graduation, Leslie Cheung held the "Leslie Cheung Modern Art Mask Exhibition" in Yunnan Art Institute, and then at the invitation of the Fine Arts Department of Dali Teachers College, he held the "Leslie Cheung Modern Mask Art Exhibition" in Dali Museum. Since then, Leslie Cheung has been teaching in Dali No.1 Vocational High School. During his teaching, he published fine arts paintings in journals at all levels throughout the country, and guided students to publish fine arts paintings in journals at all levels, thus cultivating a batch of outstanding students.
In 2000, Leslie Cheung came to Ruili by chance and was deeply attracted by Ruili’s unique ethnic customs and culture. After returning to Dali, he patiently persuaded his family to come to Ruili for development.
When you come to a strange city, all ideals must first make way for survival. Leslie Cheung, who first arrived in Ruili, opened a decoration company with his professional advantages. Indulging in national culture, he always incorporates national elements into decoration design. At that time, for a small town that had just opened, people were more eager for the modern elements of a big city. Therefore, Leslie Cheung is always rejected again and again because he can’t meet the customer’s "requirements". But he is not angry, because he firmly believes that the nation is the world, and the inheritance and development of national culture is an inevitable trend. As a result, he stuck to his beliefs in the strange eyes of others.
After arriving in Ruili, he began to think about how to inherit and develop national culture with architectural decoration as the carrier. National culture needs not only excavation, but also protection and inheritance. He visited the Buddhist College, studied the Dai language, studied the Bayeux Sutra, went deep into the countryside to find the foundation of Dai culture, and under the pressure of the shortage of funds in the early stage of the enterprise, organized teams to go abroad for many times to learn about the national architectural culture of Southeast Asian countries such as Myanmar, Thailand and Indonesia. He combined the Buddhist culture and court culture left by Dehong, and compiled a set of precious materials about national architecture through the integration of pictures, words and oral information.
We have made special publicity reports in several CCTV media, and established our own new media platform, and widely publicized Dai architecture and Dai culture through WeChat WeChat official account and headline news. The enterprise has successively undertaken a number of large-scale projects, especially the project of Dai Palace Ruins Park. The national cultural materials and creativity explored for many years have been integrated into the design and decoration. Every building exudes artistic works with national charm, which makes Ruili, a vibrant border city, also show strong local ethnic characteristics and make positive contributions to Ruili’s opening up and national cultural construction.
He has a fascination with national culture that ordinary people can’t imagine, and he even almost dressed up his own business as an exhibition hall of national culture. Some people say that he is a poet, a wise man who lives in a busy city but always enjoys life with a quiet mind.
In Leslie Cheung’s works, it seems that all Dai buildings have been decorated with clouds, running water or flowers, seeking a return to nature and a collision with the ancestors’ breath between the wonderful form and the infiltration of aura. That is beyond the reach of any high-priced reinforced concrete.
An infatuated watcher of national culture
He has successively completed the construction of village appearance such as Shefang Mangbang Village, Ruili Bangbang Village, Shousha Village, Yinjing Village and Dadeng Shoucun Village, making the new countryside in Ruili more characteristic of South Asian nationalities. About 45% of the decoration works of ethnic architecture in Dehong were completed by his company, and he also became the protector and promoter of Dai culture in Dehong, and won the "Special Contribution Award for Ethnic Culture" in Dehong Prefecture. For him born in Han nationality, it was the recognition and affirmation of the society that gave Mogao an honor.
On the road of art, his works of art won the "Hundred Flowers Cup" in 2015 in China, the "Gongmei Cup" in 2015 in the 9th Yunnan Arts and Crafts Exhibition, the "Hundred Flowers Award" bronze prize in the 11th China Arts and Crafts Exhibition in 2015 and the "Jinfeng" in the China Arts and Crafts Exhibition in 2016. In 2016, the works of art in Yunnan People’s Expo won the gold medal of Gongmei Cup, and the works of art in the 5th China Traditional Arts and Crafts Exhibition won the gold medal of "Golden Horse Award" in 2016. In 2016, the works were selected for the Beijing China Contemporary Arts and Crafts Double Exhibition, and the works were collected by China Arts and Crafts Museum. In 2016, the works of art "Ru Li Niche" were collected by Yunnan Provincial Museum. It is precisely because of these efforts and achievements. Leslie Cheung won the "Top Ten Leading Figures Award" in the arts and crafts industry in Yunnan Province, and also won the China Arts and Crafts Typical Figures Award (only one person in Yunnan). Because of these efforts and achievements, I believe he will achieve better results in Leslie Cheung’s artistic life. In his works, from architecture to flowers and plants, from national characters on stones to window grilles on every eaves,From every stone elephant on the roadside to every totem on the waiter dressed in national costumes, the cultural details of the border ethnic minorities are outlined, and his hard work and deep love for national culture are permeated in the architectural drafts that once kept the pen end.
What is more worthy of recognition is Leslie Cheung’s four limited companies in Dehong (Ruili Rong Feng Hotel Co., Ltd., Ruili Rong Feng Modern Decoration Co., Ltd., Ruili Rong Feng Mengmao Banquet National Culture Co., Ltd., Ruili Rong Feng National Culture Communication Co., Ltd., among which Rong Feng National Culture Communication Co., Ltd. is also the "Top 20 Yunnan Cultural Enterprises" in 2017. ) are all large-scale enterprises with the same national regulations, which have solved the employment problem of more than 300 people and actively paid taxes every year, making positive contributions to local construction.
Of course, keeping pace with the times is the node to undertake and carry forward national cultural products. Only by grasping the true content of national culture well can we show the unique culture of this nation, and the society is developing rapidly. Only by respecting the historical process can our national cultural products grasp the living space, so how to adapt to the times and enrich the national cultural personality is an opportunity given to us by this era. Only by truly grasping the creative foundation of national culture will we go further and further. Only in this way can we truly enrich the city’s characteristics and our national industrial products flourish. At the same time, in the process of enterprise development, Leslie Cheung actively participated in social construction and repaid the kindness of social care. China’s minority nationalities, such as De ‘ang and Jingpo, have been given financial aid to go to school. It has successively funded the construction of roads in poor rural areas and the assistance of poor households. This is how he works silently in his post, without arrogance, consistency and strict demands on himself. Meticulous, conscientious and responsible in work. In the political and ideological work and the management of the staff, we inspire and guide all the staff with our own words and deeds. It sets an example for employees’ professional ethics education, love their jobs and be proud of their enterprises. The exemplary role is silent and even greater.
Leslie Cheung is a craftsman, a thinker, a scholar of Dai culture, an artist of arts and crafts, an architect of building decoration, the boss of Rong Feng and the founder of Mengmao Banquet. His research and understanding of Dai culture is not confined to imagination or paper, but externalized to serve products and commodities, which makes Dai culture closely integrated with modern life and glows with new vitality in the process of being accepted, loved and enjoyed.
Leslie Cheung, a stranger and a Han nationality, devoted himself to the inheritance and innovation of Dai traditional culture, and integrated his life and career into the spread and promotion of national culture. What a commendable thing it is. Many years ago, Leslie Cheung called for the younger generation to learn and love the traditional culture of the Dai nationality, so that the Dai culture could grow wantonly in this land under its feet and reproduce its glory. To this day, he is still working tirelessly for this.
