We often say that "three-point treatment, seven-point nursing", the nursing work serves the whole process of people’s birth, illness, death and illness. No matter in the daily medical nursing work, or when we face the epidemic of infectious diseases, major natural disasters and other critical moments that threaten people’s health, the majority of nurses are adhering to the professional spirit of respecting life, saving lives, being willing to contribute, and loving the people’s health. Especially since the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic, nurses have undertaken a large number of teams for epidemic prevention and medical treatment, and made important contributions.

Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, we continue to promote the healthy development of nursing composition by implementing the Nurses’ Regulations, implementing special plans for nursing development, deepening the reform and development of nursing, and improving the ability of nursing. First, the team of nurses continued to grow and develop. In the past ten years, the number of nurses in China has increased by an average of 8% every year. By the end of 2021, the number of nurses in China has exceeded 5 million, reaching 5.018 million, more than double the number in 2012. The number of registered nurses per thousand population has reached 3.56, while nearly 80% of nurses have college education or above, and the overall quality and professional ability of nurses have been continuously improved.

Second, the service ability of nursing has been continuously improved. Through the continuous development of high-quality nursing service activities, the implementation of the project to improve nurses’ service ability, and the comprehensive implementation of the responsibility system for nurses, the quality of nursing has been continuously improved, the satisfaction of patients has been continuously improved, and the nursing work has gradually been close to patients, clinic and society, which has further enhanced the people’s sense of access to medical treatment.

Third, the service field of nurses continues to expand. Through the implementation of the elderly care service development project, we promote the nursing work to play an important role in the elderly health work. We have accelerated the promotion of home medical care services for the elderly. Nurses have extended nursing services to communities and families, and strived to provide diversified nursing services for the elderly, women and children with chronic diseases. At the same time, with the help of the new format of "internet plus", we provide on-site medical care services for the people, and do practical things and good deeds for the people, which has been widely praised by the people and society.

Fourth, the enthusiasm of the nurses has been mobilized. In the process of deepening medical reform, we give priority to front-line and grass-roots posts in salary distribution, professional title promotion, reward and evaluation of nurses, which effectively mobilized the enthusiasm of nurses. Especially in recent years, with the common support of all walks of life, the social atmosphere of caring, supporting and caring for the nurses has gradually formed, and the nurses have been stable and developed.

Recently, we issued the "14 th Five-Year Plan" for the development of the national nursing career, and defined the main goals and key tasks of the development of nursing work during the "14 th Five-Year Plan" period.
